Before you begin...

This pattern uses the granny square join technique and is an advanced beginner/intermediate pattern.

This pattern is made using 32 granny squares joined diagonally to create the lattice design.

The granny square join method is used throughout.

Border: Buy 1 more skein of color A for an all yellow border.

Pro Tip: Start Assembly after completing about 20 squares and 8 triangles. Then switch between assembly and make the remaining squares to prevent fatigue.

Basic Granny Square: Double crochet 3 in the chain spaces to create granny clusters.

Change yarn color: Keep the current color on your hook. Pull the yarn behind the hook. Let go of the yarn. Grab the new color yarn and loop it around the hook. Pull up a new chain with the new color. Continue pattern. Color changes only occur on the corners of the square.

Part 1: Four Section Granny Squares

(Make 32)

You're going to make granny squares using 4 color changes. Use Color B - Color I at random.

Row 1

With color B, sl kt, ch 3. Sl st to the first ch to create a circle.

Ch 3. Dc 2. Ch 1. Pull color B tail to the back of the work. Place color C on hook and ch 1. Now dc 3. Ch 1. Pull

color C tail to the back of the work. Place color D on hook and ch 1. Now dc 3. Ch 1. Pull color C tail to the back of

the work. Place color E on hook and ch 1. Now dc 3. Ch 2. Sl st to top of color B.

Row 2

Turn your work over to face the wrong side. Color E is on the top color B is on the right. Continue with Color E, ch

3, place dc 2 in corner ch space. Ch 1. Dc 3 in corner ch space. Ch 1. Switch to color D. Repeat dc 3, ch 1 around until you complete all 4 colors. To join, Ch 1. Sl st to color A.

Row 3 - Row 6

Repeat row 2, switching between the 2 colors, turning your work back and forth & adding another [ch 1, dc 3] repeat, until there are 6 rows total. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Part 1: Four Section Granny Squares

(Make 32)

You're going to make granny squares using 4 color changes. Use Color B - Color I at random.

Row 1

With color B, sl kt, ch 3. Sl st to the first ch to create a circle.

the work. Place color E on hook and ch 1. Now dc 3. Ch 2. Sl st to top of color B.

Row 2

Turn your work over to face the wrong side. Color E is on the top color B is on the right. Continue with Color E, ch

3, place dc 2 in corner ch space. Ch 1. Dc 3 in corner ch space. Ch 1. Switch to color D. Repeat dc 3, ch 1 around until you complete all 4 colors. To join, Ch 1. Sl st to color A.

Row 3 - Row 6

Repeat row 2, switching between the 2 colors, turning your work back and forth & adding another [ch 1, dc 3] repeat, until there are 6 rows total. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Part 2: Two Section Triangles

(Make 14)

Triangles used as the edge pieces. You're going to make granny square triangles using 2 color changes. Use Color B - Color I at random.

Chain

With color B, sl kt, ch 3. Sl st to the first ch to create a circle.

Row 1

With color B ch 3, dc 2. Ch 1. Pull color B tail to the back of the work. Place color C on hook and ch 1. Now dc 3.

Ch 1. Pull color C tail to the back of the work. Turn work.

Row 2

With color C ch 3, dc 2. Ch 1, dc 3, ch 1 in corner space. Pull color C tail to the back of the work. Place color B on hook and ch 1, dc 3 in same corner space as color C. Ch 1, dc 3. Pull color C tail to the back of the work. Turn work.

Row 3 - Row 6

Repeat row 2, switching between the 2 colors, turning your work back and forth & adding another [ch 1, dc 3] repeat, until there are 6 rows total. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Part 3: Assembly

(Make 8)

Please refer to the chart above to assemble this blanket correctly. Start at the red arrow. You will fasten off after each row. The granny square join technique will create the lattice quilt appearance. Add the 4 corner triangles at the end of assembly using the granny square join technique or leave them off to create a rounded corner blanket.

Row 1

With color A, sl st to the bottom left corner of a triangle. Ch 3, dc 2, ch 1 then [dc 3, ch 1] x 5 along the bottom of the triangle. At the corner, (dc 3, ch 2, dc 3). Continue [ ] X 5 along the right side of the triangle.

At the top center of the triangle, dc 3, ch 2 like the corner then grab a new granny square and place the last dc 3 in the bottom left corner of the square. *Insert your hook in the ch 1 space of color A & sl st 1 to attach. Dc 3 back in the next open ch 1 of the square. Repeat * X 5 until you reach the corner. To join the corners, Ch 1, sl st to the corner ch 2 space of color A, ch 1 then continue [ ] X 5 along the right side. At the corner ( ), then continue [ ] X 5 along the top of the square. Continue the bottom, right, top, join method until you've added the correct amount of squares to the row. Join the last triangle from the center point by repeating * then [ ] down the entire left side of the row. Be sure to ch 1, sl st, ch1 to incorporate the ch 2 between joins. At the end of the row dc 3 in the same space as the first stitches, ch 2 and sl st to the top of ch 3. Fasten off.

Repeat row 1 but at the bottom right corner of the first triangle, join the corners together with the bottom left corner of the first triangle and continue to attach the right side of the new row with the left side of the first using the * technique.

Part 4: Border

(Make 1)

Use all of the remaining crochet yarn to make a border.

Ch 1. Sc around in each stitch. Sl st to the top of ch 1. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
