Beginner Crochet Christmas Stockings | beginner Pattern

I make stockings every year and this year I decided to make my own beginner crochet Christmas stockings pattern. This pattern is much more simple than it looks. Color changes are what make the pattern looks so nice.

I took inspiration from more of the traditional style crochet but I still wanted the pattern repeat to be simple to follow along as a beginner crocheter.

Before you begin...

The beginner crochet Christmas stocking pattern is worked in the round. Chain (ch) 1 at the start of each row. You can choose to Slip stitch (sl st) join to the ch space for each round or work continuously in the round with a stitch marker.

Part 1: Toe

(Make 1)

The heel decrease for the stocking is worked in flat rows.

Chain

Ch 4. Sl st to first stitch.

Row 1

Ch 1, sc 10 in chain circle. Sl st to ch to join.

Row 2

Ch 1, sc 2 in each stitch around. Sl st to ch to join.

Row 3

Ch 1, sc 1 in each stitch around. Sl st to join.

Row 4

Ch 1, [sc 1, sc 2] two stitch repeat around. Sl st to join.

Row 5

Repeat row 3.

Row 6

Ch 1, [sc 2, sc 1, sc 1] three stitch repeat around. Sl st to join.

Row 7

Repeat row 3.

Row 8

Ch 1, [sc 1, sc 1, sc 1, sc 2] four stitch repeat around. Sl st to join.

With color B, sc 1 around.

Row 2

With color C, sc 1 around.

Repeat row 1.

Row 4 - Row 5

Repeat row 2 twice.

Row 6 - Row 8

With color C, sc in each of the next 4, switch colors to color B, sc 1, switch back to color C. [With C sc 4. With B, sc 1] repeat around.

Row 9 - Row 10

Repeat row 2 twice.

Row 11 - Row 13

Repeat row 1 and row 2, ending on row 1.

Row 14

With color B, sc 4, switch to color D, sc 4. [With B sc 4, with D sc 4] repeat around.

Row 15 - Row 16

Repeat row 14 twice.

Row 17

With color D, sc 4, switch to color E, sc 4. [With D sc 4, with E sc 4] repeat around.

Row 18 - Row 19

Repeat row 17 twice.

Row 20 - Row 30

Repeat rows 14 - 16. Fasten off.

Part 3: Heel

(Make 1)

The heel decrease for the stocking is worked in flat rows.

Row 1

Slip stitch color A to project and sc 16. Ch 1. Turn.

Row 2

Ch 1, sc2tog, sc 1 across until there are 2 left, sc2tog. Turn.

Row 3 - Row 6

Repeat row 2 for a total of 5 times.

Row 7

Ch 1, sc across, sl st to row 5. Turn.

Row 8

Ch 1, sc 7 across, sl st to row 6. Turn.

Row 9

Ch 1, sc 8 across, sl st to row 5. Turn.

Row 10

Ch 1, sc 9 across, sl st to row 4. Turn.

Row 11

Ch 1, sc 10 across, sl st to to row 4. Turn.

Row 12

Ch 1, sc 11 across, sl st to row 3. Turn.

Row 13

Ch 1, sc 12 across, sl st to row 3. Turn.

Row 14

Ch 1, sc 13 across, sl st to row 2. Turn.

The upper part of the stocking.

Row 1

With color D, sl st to the corner between the foot and the heel with the foot to the left. Sc in each of the next 4, switch colors to color E sc 4, switch back to color D. [With D, sc 4. With E, sc 4] repeat around. Sl st to join.

Row 2 - Row 3

Repeat row 1 twice.

Row 4 - 12

Repeat Row 14 - Row 22 pattern from Part 2.

Row 13

Repeat Row 1 - 13 pattern from Part 2.

Row 14

Switch to color A. Ch 1, sc around. Sl st to join.

Row 15 - 17

Repeat row 14 for a total of 4 times.

Row 18

Ch 8 to 10 st then sl st in the same stitch. Sl st around. Sl st to join. Fasten off and weave in ends.
